The aim of this long term seminar is the introduction and analysis of the main characteristics (stylized facts) of the shipping markets, i.e. the freight and vessels market. Furthermore, this first session will introduce the participants of the seminar to the field of Shipping Finance, i.e. the alternative sources of capital for shipping investments and their unique characteristics when compared to the general corporate finance case.

The aim of this session is the presentation and in-depth discussion of the shipping cycle and of the main characteristics of shipping investment, i.e. the decision to construct a newbuilding vessel or buy/sell a second-hand vessel.
This session aims to analyse shipping bank loans, the most important source of finance for the shipping industry over time. Specifically, this session focuses on the characteristics of shipping bank loans vis-à-vis other sources of finance such as shipping bonds and shipping IPOs.
