A general idea of ships’ charter and particularly of the charter of a dry cargo ship in a single voyage. The understanding of the procedure of commodity sale, the tracking, negotiation and fixing of the right vessel and the delivery to destination in world trade
Detailed description of the Cargo Order, which we intend to negotiate, as well as of those of the ports of loading and discharging. Knowledge of cargo and ports characteristics which are very important for the Owner to know and evaluate before proceeding to Voyage Estimation and then to Firm Offer in order to commence the negotiation and fixing of the ship.
Detailed description of all “Main Terms” of the initial firm offer of the Ship-Owner to the Charterer, for the specific cargo order, so that the Charterer to have a full picture of ship’s particulars, as well as of the Main Terms that the Ship-Owner commences negotiation. Knowledge of a full initial Firm Offer for the proposed cargo, which includes all necessary Main Terms, so that the Charterer to be fully aware of the particulars of the vessel, as well of the terms that the Owner is prepared to negotiate and charter the ship.
Detailed description of all “Main Terms” in which the Charterer disagrees based on the Owner’s firm offer. Knowledge of a complete initial Firm Counter –Offer from the Charterer, where he states in detail in which Main Terms, based on Owner’s firm offer, he disagrees and what he counter-proposes. These preferred by the Charterer Main Terms are the basis for further negotiation.
Detailed analysis of all points in which the Owner and the Charterer disagree. The gap must be bridged by Give-And-Take. Knowledge of a full negotiation and the way of gradual agreement of the terms. Both parties commenced negotiating by proposing their “Most Favorable “terms. During negotiation, they were obliged to give up on certain of them in order to obtain others more important of course.
Knowledge of detailed description of all Main Terms, which were agreed between Charterer and Owner so far. Understanding of the principles of “Take and Give” and “Take-It-Leave-It” and the progressive acceptance or the terms. Although they both commenced the negotiation with quite adverse for the other party terms, then they both, by showing spirit of cooperation, compromised and arrived to an agreement.
The familiarization with the printed part of the proforma as well as with the “Rider”. Knowledge on how to fill up the boxes on part one and detailed clauses of the part two, many of which are deleted since they were already agreed on Main Terms. The secondary clauses also, as mentioned in the “Rider”, are to be studied.
