The course aims at familiarizing participants with Strategic Management and its key role in shaping the direction of organizations. It is designed to address the challenges junior and middle level managers working in different sectors of the maritime industry face and at the same time acquaint those who have no or limited experience on the topic of Strategic Management. Strategy is essential for any organization whether this is for profit or not, since it defines its direction via actionable plans. Those attending the module with e-Maritime will become familiar with strategic thinking and will be able to make flexible strategic decisions.

Section A : Introduction to Strategy

  • The chapter aims at familiarizing the reader with the fundamentals of strategic thinking
    • Understand the importance of strategic management
    • Become aware on the ingredients enabling competitive advantage
    • Differentiate between strategy and business model
    • Make clear what is NOT a Strategy

Section B: Strategic Thinking

    • Provide an up-to-date view of what strategy should be

  • The chapter aims at the in depth understanding of the strategic challenges the port industry faces via a case study
